In
1997, the GEiEG made a turn-around in its cultural policy. Having
organised the “Grupconcerts” programme for several years
(a series of classical music concerts with choirs or orchestras of
an international level), the association decided to stop organising
the event due to the high costs involved, and back the Girona International
Theatre Festival, the “Festival Internacional de Teatre de Girona”,
which consists of theatre, music and dance events. In this way the
Group became part of the club of theatre patronage, which is based
on the purchase, by the association, of a certain number of tickets
for all the shows of the festival, but at twice the box office price.
During the first year the tickets purchased were raffled among the
members of the association. This method varied in subsequent years
as the association decided to add to its support of the event by becoming
a co-sponsor of the festival, together with the University of Girona
and the town councils of Girona and Salt. In this way the members
of the Group can take advantage of discounts available when purchasing
tickets in advance.
